Velma Staples Patterson 86 of Edmonton, KY, died Thursday March 4, 2010 at the Hopkins Care and Rehabilitation Center in Woodburn, KY where she had resided for the past year. She was born in Barren County the daughter of the late Fred and Julia Rich Spann. In her early life, Mrs. Patterson had been a telephone operator for the General Telephone Co. until 1958 when she became an employee of the Howard Clinic in Glasgow where she retired after 38 years. She was a former member of the Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Jeri Staples Marsh and husband Tom of Alvaton, KY; 4 sons Douglas Jewell Williams and Robert Stephen Williams both of San Antonio, TX, Philip Gerald Williams and wife Freida of Goodyear, AZ and James Daryl Williams and wife Mary Lynn of Jackson, TN; 2 step sons Michael Patterson and wife Becky of Cookeville, TN and Steve Patterson of Edmonton, KY. Twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, J. D. Williams, Ewell Staples and M. W. Patterson and her brother, Albert Jewell Spann and sister-in-law Eunice Spann. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5pm until 8pm and Saturday from 10am until 8pm.
