Velmer M. Burden, 92, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, January 3rd, 2016 at the Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. She was born on Sunday, March 4th, 1923 in McLean County, the daughter of the late Clarence and Mishie (Bratcher) Burden. Velmer was a member of Zion Harmony General Baptist Church in Butler County where she was Sunday school and church clerk for years. She and her sisters prepared lunch for the entire church congregation and others in the community on Sundays for many years. Velmer loved her family and enjoyed reading her Bible, witnessing and sharing her wisdom and memories of times past. She was a precious lady and will be greatly missed. Velmer was retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation in Louisville where she worked for 22 years. During these years she lived with her twin brother, Delmer and his family. Other than her parents, Velmer is preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Delmer Burden; two sisters, Dessie (Burden) Goodman and Juanita Burden; two sisters-in-law, Mabel (Taylor) Burden and Anna Rose (Jackson) Burden and one niece, Laverne (Goodman) Bates. Velmer is survived by one brother, Opal Burden of Morgantown; one sister-in-law, Gennita Burden also of Morgantown and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Zion Harmony Church in Butler County. Bros Carl Bates, Ricky Dockery and Gary Embry will be officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Harmony Cemetery.Friends may call at the Zion Harmony Church Tuesday after 3:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:00 am until time of service.
