Violet Carrie Young Wood 86 of Glasgow, KY died Monday, January 11, 2009 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Burkesville, KY surrounded by her 2 sons and family. She was born in Bluff Head Cove, Newfoundland on March 30, 1923. Violet was the eldest daughter of the late Philip F. and Minnie Roberts Young. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters Evelyn Piasta and Olive Gullen. She married Donald James Wood in 1941, and he preceded her in death in February of 1977. She and her family resided in Michigan until the late 1950's moving to Pompano Beach,FL where she lived until 5 years ago. She belonged to the Pilot International Club for 45 years having worked as a secretary, clothing buyer and head account manager in banking for many years. She resided at Highland Ridge Assisted Living in Glasgow until her recent illness with cancer. She loved all the staff there and was sad not to be able to say goodbye to them. Mrs. Wood was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Glasgow. She enjoyed reading and keeping in touch with friends on the internet and recently Facebook had become her favorite way to connect with family and friends. Survivors include her two children, Donald James Wood, Jr. of North Carolina and David Wood (Julie) of Burkesville, KY; 3 granddaughters Shannon, Carrie and Adona, 1 grandson David Wood Jr.; 9 great-grandchildren Lauryn, Rebecca, Kayla, Julie, Sarah, Christopher, Tristan, Beau and Eric; 1 brother Sidney Young and a step sister Kathy Williams both of Michigan. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Thursday Jan. 14th 2010 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial next to her husband in the North Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Pompano Beach, FL. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00PM until time for the service.
