Virginia Nell Anderson, age 87, of Byron, IL, passed away at Serenity Hospice in Byron, IL, on September 1, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Virginia was born on November 4, 1935, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to the late John Wisdom and late Lucinda (Bandy) Wisdom. Virginia was a member of the Dover Baptist Church in Mt. Hermon, KY.
Virginia and her husband James William Anderson were married on March 3, 1957 and then moved from Louisville, Kentucky to Chicago, Illinois in September 1957. After having their children, they moved to Belvidere, Illinois and resided there until 1992. She and her husband retired to Mt. Herman, Kentucky before his passing in 2003. In 2004 she moved back to Rockford and lived with family until May 2022. She then moved to Generations at Neighbors Nursing Facility. Virginia worked in many various banking positions and retired from First National Bank in 1992.
She and James enjoyed building their home together in Kentucky and spending time making memories with family and friends. She enjoyed making quilts by hand and made one for each member of the family.
Virginia is survived by her son, Larry Anderson (Mary Ann) of Rockford, IL.; her daughter, Linda Klein (Gary) of Byron, IL; five grandchildren, Mark Laken (Laura), Julia Laken, Beth Birchler (Matt), Emily Barlow (Chris), and Laura Anderson; One Great- Granddaughter, Olive Barlow. Virginia is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, James Anderson; two sisters, Ova Campisi (William) and Edna Griggs (Howard); Her mother and father in-law, Jonie and Verda Anderson; Her granddaughter, Anne Semlak-Laken; Sisters in-law, Mary Gentry (Ulysses), Martha Jones (Wallace); Brother in-law, Luther Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Ms. Anderson will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 7th at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, September 7th starting at 10:00 AM until time for the service at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank all the family and friends for their kind words, thoughts, and prayers. A big thanks to the nurses, CNAs and all the staff and residents at Neighbors for the exceptional care she received and friendships she made. Lastly, Thanks to Samantha, RN and Willie, Chaplin of Serinity Hospice for giving he comfort and peace.
