Walter Edwards

Walter Donald Edwards, age 86, of Glasgow, Kentucky died peacefully, surrounded by those he loved on Sunday, August 19, 2023, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. Walter Donald was born on October 4, 1936, in Barren County, Kentucky, to the late Guthrie Courtney Edwards and Edna Pennington Edwards. He was a 1954 graduate of Park City High School.

Donald, as most knew him, began his career as a salesman for Auto Wheel and Rim Service Company. After 33 years, he retired from there and began his dream job - driving a school bus for Glasgow Independent Schools. Donald took great pride in driving the bus, and loved each child who rode on his bus. In addition to the regular route, Donald enjoyed many years of driving the football and baseball teams to away games regularly, and on occasion other teams.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 66 years, Patricia "Patt" Ryan Edwards; two sons, Jeff (Marla) Edwards and Randy (Julie) Edwards, both of Glasgow; three grandchildren, Melodye (Jeremy) Phelps, Courtney (John) Benefield, and Catherine (Tyler) Hughes; two step-grandchildren, Chad (Lindsey) Houchens and Micah (Casey) Page; nine great-grandchildren, Abram, Everett, Olsen Phelps, Greer, JP, Grayson Benefield, and Griffin, Marleigh, Hadley Hughes; and two step-great-grandchildren, Bradley Houchens and Jackson Page. He is also survived by one sister, Wanda Gordon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Riley Anne Hughes and a brother-in-law, William Lee Gordon.

The funeral service for Mr. Edwards will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, August 24th at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 23rd from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
