Walter Winn Davis, 76, passed away at his home on 10-8-20. Mr. Davis was born on 11-24-43 in Glasgow, Kentucky, the son of Winn Davis and Elsie Green Davis. He was educated in the Glasgow City Schools, graduating from Glasgow High School in 1961. Mr. Davis received his B.A. degree in Economics and Business Administration in 1965 and a Juris Doctor degree in 1968, both from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. He practiced law in Glasgow, Kentucky from 1968 to 2014, and was a member of the Barren County (President 1977-1978) and Kentucky Bar Associations. He served as Glasgow Police Judge from 1976 to 1978. He was a member of the Christian Legal Society and the Commercial Law League. He practiced law with the firms of Travis, Ropp Davis & Wheeler; Davis and Davis & Critz. Mr. Davis was a director of Citizens Bank and Trust Company, Glasgow, Kentucky, from 1968 through 1990 (Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors 1977-1990). Mr. Davis was on the Advisory Board of Trans Financial Bank, N.A., and U.S. Bank relative to its Glasgow region activities from 1990 to 2007. Mr. Davis has been involved in numerous civic activities, including being a member of the Glasgow Rotary Club and a member of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Board of Directors of T.J. Samson Community Hospital from 1972 through 2009 and a consultant to the Board until 2017; a member of the Board of Directors of the Glasgow-Barren County Jr. Achievement (President 1981-1983); a member of the Board of Directors and an officer of the Glasgow-Barren County Jaycees; a member of the Board of the Glasgow Aquatic Club (President 1984-1985); a member of the Board of Directors of Glasgow Christian Academy (1992-2000 and 2005-2014, Chairman, 2007-2009); and a member of the Board of Directors of the Barren County Family YMCA. Mr. Davis was a founding member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Glasgow, Kentucky. He has served as a deacon and adult Bible teacher in various churches. He served on Committees for the Kentucky and Southern Baptist Conventions and as moderator for Liberty Baptist Association (1993-1995). He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Barren River Animal Welfare Association and a lifelong dog lover, survived by his own dog Odie and several grand dogs. Mr. Davis resided on West Washington Street in Glasgow in his family home, with his wife, Kaye Sewell Davis. He and his wife Edwina Case Davis (born 6-13-44: died 11-2-01) are the parents of four children: Walter Winn Davis, Jr., operating engineer, married to Lynne Volsen Davis, children Kailley and Molly (Adrian, Michigan); John Case Davis, President of Beaver Creek Hydrology, married to Cynthia Kito, children Maya and Zoe (Lexington, Kentucky); Elaine Davis Bernius, professor at Indiana Wesleyan University, married to Brian Bernius, children Todd, Asher, Ruth, and Lydia (Marion, Indiana); and Charles "Chuck" Davis, water resources engineer, married to Beatriz Rodolpho (Lexington, Kentucky). Other close family members include Nathan Sewell (born 2-9-74: died 10-27-17), Stacie Sewell, and LeeAnna Sewell Delbridge (married to Elias Delbridge). A Private Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 13th at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. A public Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. At Walter's request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity.
