William Alton Abston, 92, of Haywood, passed away into the next life on November 8, 2021, at his home. Born in Barren County, KY, on June 28, 1929, to the parents, Charlie Perk Abston and Ethel Mae Nunn Bradley Abston, who preceded him in death. As a young man, he worked on the family farm. He was a mechanic and was very skilled in working with welding, carpentry, and many hands-on skills. He retired from DESA in Bowling Green, Ky after 20 years of service. William Alton was of the Baptist faith and saved as a young man at the Martin Tabernacle off Lick Branch Road in Barren County. He was married to the late Alta Rudell Sheffield Abston. He is survived by three children. Two daughters and sons in law, Janice Poynter and husband Raymond of Haywood, Wanda Pursley and husband Harold of Haywood; a son and daughter in law, Danny Abston and wife Shelli of Railton; five grandchildren, Joshua Abston of Franklin, Quentin Pursley and wife Lindsey of Bowling Green, Kelli Abston Jenkins and husband Kevin of Railton, Stuart Pursley and wife Dilyana of Lawrenceburg, Dyllan Abston and wife Vikki of Brownsville; bonus grandson, Gregg Coates of Glasgow; two great grandsons, Aiden Abston and Sebastion Phillips; two sisters and brothers in law, Velma Abston Rich and husband Charles of Franklin, IN, Hazel Abston Morgan of Glasgow; one brother and sister in law, Marvin Abston and wife Verna of Railton; several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his wife, Alta Rudell Sheffield Abston; a grandson, PFC Christopher "Justin" Abston; his parents, Charlie and Ethel Mae Nunn Bradley Abston; brothers, Olin Abston and Rondal Abston; sisters, Helen Abston Morgan and Zola Abston Wood; brothers in law, Wendell Morgan and Willard Wood; sisters in law, Pearl Pierce Abston, Mary Jones Abston, and Jean Elmore Abston. The funeral service for Mr. Abston will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 16th at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Shiloh General Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday and Tuesday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
