William Faunus Marrs (Bill) passed away in Louisville, KY on April 9, 2013 at the age of 64. He served the community of Glasgow in many ways, but primarily as a practitioner of general medicine from 1975 to the time of his death. William Faunus Marrs was born in January 22, 1949 in Glasgow, KY to the late William Fleming Marrs and Inez Bowman Marrs. The date of his birth marked the exact 30th anniversary of the passing of his grandfather and namesake, William Faunus Marrs. William Fleming Marrs served as postmaster at the general store he owned and operated in Mount Hermon, KY. Inez Marrs tended the family garden and watched after the children. The Marrs' commitment to Christ was evident in their daily lives and became an integral part of Bill's life. The only boy and perceived favorite out of the four Marrs children, Bill was eager to help around the house, at the general store, and at neighboring farms. His dedication to hard work and helping others laid the foundation for his dedication to education and the desire to practice medicine. Bill attended high school in Tompkinsville, KY where his affinity for sports led him to the football field. He graduated from Asbury College in 1970 after completing his pre-medical curriculum but not before meeting his future wife, Maria Holston of Jackson, GA. Bill and Maria moved to Louisville for his medical education shortly after marrying. The young Marrs family moved to Glasgow, KY in 1975 to start the medical practice that would continue until his passing. In addition to his role as doctor, Bill served the community in many ways. For over 25 years, he served as president of the Barren County Medical Society; he served as the team physician for the Glasgow High School football team during the 1980's and 1990's; and, he taught the senior high Sunday school class at the First United Methodist Church for 25 years. In addition to the many other community boards and committees on which he served, he was actively serving on the Board of Directors for the Community Relief Fund. Bill is survived by his wife, Maria Holston Marrs; three sons, William Fleming 'Billy' (Cheryl Holsey), Benjamin Andrew 'Benji' (Missy Hart), and Brock Holston (Ravin Wright); and grandchildren, Katherine Lynn, Benjamin Andrew, Jr. 'Andrew', Mary Keene, William Faunus 'Liam', and Evelyn Grace. He is survived by three sisters, Doris Marrs McKinley (Dr. Robert N.), Brenda Bowman Marrs, and Martha Marrs Yezerski (Dr. John A.); two aunts, Sue Carol Jaggers and Betty Bowman of Glasgow; one uncle, Dr. Gordon Larson of DeLand, FL; and in-laws, Andy and Bette Holston and nephews, John Eric Yezerski (Courtney), Matthew Yezerski (Erica), and Adam Yezerski. He is also survived by several additional nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his devoted nurse and friend of 33 years, Nell Grider. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church on Friday, April 12th from 3pm till 8pm and Saturday, April 13th from 10am until funeral services at 1pm. Burial will take place at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
