William D. Bill Simmons 79 of Glasgow died Sunday, January 22, 2012 at his home. The Barren County native was a son of the late James Edwin and Emma Beatrice Barbour Simmons. He retired from the J.C. Penny Company after 43 years of retail management in Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and Florida. Bill was a member and former president of Exchange Clubs in Florida and was always active in Chambers of Commerce in the areas he lived and worked. He had been a deacon in the Baptist Church for 43 years and since retiring and moving home to Glasgow had been a member, a deacon and Sunday school teacher in the Glasgow Baptist Church. Bill was also a member and former president of the Barren River Rod and Gun Club and the Temple Hill Lions Club. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and enjoyed the cooking teams with his church and sportsmans club. He is survived by his wife Hallie Cloyd Simmons; 5 children, Steve Simmons (Margaret) of St. Petersburg, FL, Tim Simmons (Julie) of Nashville, TN, Viveca Parker (Bob) of Ft. Pierce, FL, Lisa Speed (Aaron) of Pensacola, FL and Sonya Stearns (Todd) of Naples, FL; 12 grandchildren Tonya Rivera, Felicia Pannell, Lane, Nathan, Robert, Sara and Jonathan Simmons, Hallie and Noah Speed and Victoria, Christiana and William Stearns; 3 great-grandchildren Brandon and Bryce Rivera and Jordan Pannell; 1 sister Betty Hopkins of Glasgow; 8 brothers Roger Simmons of Florida, Samuel Leroy Simmons of Scottsville, KY, James Robert Simmons of Texas and Kenneth, Delmer, Danny, David and Tony Simmons all of Glasgow; a brother-in-law Neil Pendygraft of Glasgow and several nieces and nephews. A sister Emma Lou Pendygraft preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Glasgow Baptist Church with burial in the Barbour Cemetery. Visitation will be at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00am until time for the service.
